goodbye dignity
today is our last performance, we're doing the tempest this afternoon and one of the actresses is doing her one woman show this evening called 'tower of babble', very funny, and we have our final cast party after that. anyway, the young company, apparently, puts on a short play/skit at the cast party that parodies our play, and i have been dragged into it. i want to keep the number of people that know what i am going to do to a minimum, but suffice it to say, i will have no dignity left after i do this role. ...i hope no one takes a picture of me. Current Mood: nervous | | Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 | | 11:27 am |
:)
so one of the girls in th young company introduced me to their cousin and the two of us have been hanging out a bit. we've been on two 'dates' so far, the first one was last saturday and he brought me to my first club, which was quite the experience. especially since that evening was 'drag queen performance night' or something (every so often one of three drag queens would emerge and "sing" a song). our second date consisted of going to a japanese hibachi grill restaurant (i like plum wine) and later going back to his house and watching 'Invader Zim'. today the two of us and most of the young company is planning on getting together and playing 'cthulhu', and while most people wouldn't consider it as one, i still consider it a date. | | Friday, July 29th, 2005 | | 1:32 pm |
bars, press, and chopsticks
finished 'the half-blood prince' last week. as soon as i finished it one of the actors asked if he could borrow it. it seems like the book is going around our cast like an std. anyway, he returned the book at the beginning of this week and gave me a thank-you card and a nice pair of chopsticks as a present, i really like that man. he teaches theater at the local high-school and the day before yesterday i told him and the young-company girls the story about how ian malloy (or whoever it was) jumped out of the second story window cus it wasn't against the rules to do so. willy (the teacher) covered his face with his hands and just shook his head, while the girls laughed. he then chastised me for giving them ideas and told me that now they're going to get some stupid boy to jump out a window at their school. our play got an article in the local paper yesterday, it covered the entire front page of the entertainment section. there was one article that a local reporter wrote after he came and interviewed the cast and my aunt. three of the paragraphs are just random quotes that i don't think that the actors intended to be put in the paper. stuff like "it's really hot" or another actress complaining about her costume. there was another article that my aunt told me was actually the theater company's press release, but a different local reporter added the words 'in addition' to the beginning of it and pasted her name on it. my aunt said this was a very tacky thing to do. last night after our tech run my aunt took me out to my first bar for a drink. she took me to the same bar that she and my grandmother were in when a bar fight broke out, unfortunately when we got there, we were the only ones there. we spent about an hour there talking about various theater stories. she recounted to me how she used to get boys to buy her and her friends liquor when she was young, and, when she was wearing huge platform shoes during the era of 'ziggy stardust', how much it'd hurt to fall down from tipsiness. | | Monday, July 25th, 2005 | | 7:55 pm |
ow
went out to eat and to the movies last night with some of the cast. saw 'the island'. colin's review: interesting story and very detailed car crashes but there were some cheesy lines and the product placing got a little annoying. went to the beach today with three other cast members, dihn, candy, and jennifer, two of which are probably my favorite actors. jennifer cus she's funny and neurotic, and dihn (the same guy that rode with me on the way down) cus he's cute and goofy (especially when he eats chocolate). the beach was wonderful, pretty sand, not a lot of people, perfect temperature for the water, however i did get a little burnt in an odd spot. to explain how i got burnt, requires even more explanation so here's the story from the top. when we first got to the beach, i was wearing sandals and wasn't enjoying trudging through the sand with shoes on so i want barefoot. of course i got sand all over my feet, and in the process of putting on my sunscreen wasn't able to put any on my ankles and feet. at the time i thought "i cant remember ever putting and lotion on my feet before and they've never been burnt". the upshot of this thought? i now am sporting a pair of sunburn 'socks' on my feet. thankfully i remembered to bring my bottle of aloe. so, as an answer to a question my sis posted, we haven't really had any wild cast parties here yet. the guy who usually organizes them or gets everyone to go out to a karaoke bar on saturday nights is playing the lead in the play and is too busy stressing over memorizing his lines. there are some parties 'in the works' though. one of the local actors that joined the cast late and took the place of a really obnoxious guy that wasn't that great an actor and kept missing rehearsals, is turning 40 in a couple of weeks. and while being interviewed by the director, he made a condition to her that he'd only join the cast if we'd all get together for a huge party on his birthday. this, as it turns out, wasn't an issue and he was immediately drafted into the cast. | | Sunday, July 17th, 2005 | | 8:54 pm |
guess where i am
hello up there to all my friends in maine and points in-between! i've been though my first week of living in the south, and will hereby recount the events that have taken place so far. the drive down wasn't too bad (i came down on the 9th). my dad rode with me from maine to my aunt's house in new jersey (and he helped in driving) and both he and my car made the entire trip without breaking down.we spent the night at my aunt's house where she frantically tried to pack various props and art supplies while at the same time recounted childhood memories with my dad. the next day my uncle took my dad to catch a train/bus home while my aunt and i went to pick up some of the actors taking a train in from new york. i met three of them there and it was decided that, as i didnt have air conditioning in my car, the guy who got there late would ride down with me (which was fine with me as he was the cutest ;) ). we then all settled in for a 10 hour trip from new jersey to north carolina, *groan*. twice i took a wrong exit and added 40 minutes on to our trip but i still managed to get to the town we were headed to first. the town we were headed to is called new bern and when you enter it you start by crossing a big bridge. this bridge has about four exit ramps off of it all leading in different directions. the plan was that i was going to pull over when i got to the edge of the town and call my aunt for directions on the trac phone my dad got me. but, i didnt know that the edge of town started before the bridge and soon found myself staring down at four exit options coming at me at 50 mph. i picked the first one i saw that had 'new bern' in the name and, after pulling over and calling my aunt, found out that i was only a few blocks from where we were headed (yay for dumb luck!). as a result, though, one of the actors is convinced that i have an extremely innate sense of direction. i went to where my aunt told me to go and we arrived at a couples house that would be housing one of the actors (btw, all the actors and my aunt and me are being put up at various residents of new bern)and we all went in their house and immediately fell in love with air conditioning. over the next two days i met many new people and had to stretch my name-remembering-gland to it's limit. the people i'm staying with are very nice, their names are jack and louise. jack designs skate boards(you wouldn't guess it by looking at him) and louise has been so nice she already feels like a distant aunt. their house is also nice, i get my own bedroom and bathroom, as well at the other actor staying here, and there's a little living room with a tv just for the two of use. and they have obviously given me the use of one of their computers, though i try to only use it during parts of the day when they don't. the cast and crew, actually i should just say cast, as of now i'm the only crew, are all very interesting and friendly. the new york actors tend to remain a little cliquey, but i try to get involved with as many things as they play as i can. the people i find i am having the most in common with, though, are the people in what my aunt calls the 'young company', a group of 4 or 5 15-year-old girls that volunteer to help with the play. we found out yesterday, as i was admiring one of the girl's drawings of an anime-looking shirtless boy in tiny shorts, that we all like some of the same web-comics ('sublunary' and 'friendly hostility'). and one of the girls (the one that drew the pictures) acts and sounds exactly like a little mary stafford, she even tried to give me an evil mary stare when i pointed out that, while she was waiting 10 minuets for someone to finish with a pair of scissors, there was a usable pair right next to her the whole time. my days are pretty tiring, we have rehearsals from 1-10 on weekdays and 1-5 on weekends, and i need to be there for every one. we do get mondays off, however. most of my job entails keeping track of all the thoughts my aunt has and organizing them into their proper locations be they ideas about the set or props or reminding her which actors cant make which rehearsals. i also am the keeper of the key to the theater and need to make sure i get to every rehearsal at least a half-hour early to open doors and turn on the lights. well, that's all for now, i wonder i'll beat ryan's post today for being longer in length. take care y'all :) | | Saturday, July 9th, 2005 | | 6:18 am |
bye
leaving for north carolina today, and no i hadn't left already. it seems like people assume i left just cus i haven't been in touch with them. well, all that aside, i'll be back in 5-6 weeks and hopefully i can find a computer to use where i'm going so i can still do this. farewell. | | Friday, June 17th, 2005 | | 4:43 pm |

hicks
just saw a news report about homosexual themed books in public schools and libraries, mainly elementary schools. anyways, publishers have had several books put out that have homosexual characters in it in order to teach children to be tolerant of people who are different. one of them was called "king and king" and was about a prince charming that fell in love with another prince charming. the reporter said that the books did well in new york, but backwater hicks in louisiana got in an uproar about the arrival of the books (i'm paraphrasing what the said, of course). the parents said that the content of these books was offensive and too 'adult oriented'. what i have to say to the parents is this: first of all, the books are no more adult oriented then anything disney has made. and secondly, the fact that you find this offensive is proof in itself that you are a narrow-minded hick and need to be taught to respect people's differences yourself. my ranting quota for the day is completed | | Wednesday, June 1st, 2005 | | 6:25 pm |
so, around 9:45 today i was busy cleaning a hallway in a dorm at thomas and my boss comes in and asks everyone there to gather in the lobby for a meeting (total number of people-6). he goes on to tell us that one of the wings we had already cleaned wasn't cleaned thoroughly and that every room had to have a "once over", which makes about 30 rooms. he also told us that we only had till 10:30 to get it done. the major issue i had with his decision was that he knew there was a deadline to have that wing clean, he knew when that deadline was, yet he waited till that deadline was less than an hour away to see if everything was in order. and so you know, by the time it was 10:30 we only had 10 rooms done. my boss is an interesting guy, and by interesting i mean a hard-ass and someone the entire staff makes fun of behind his back. i, personally like to make fun of his motorcycle and his hair style. his motorcycle, which he occasionally rides on to work, i like to call his 'midlife crisis-mobile'. and his hairstyle, well, he is balding, so i can't really make fun of that. however, he did decide to grow a beard this year, and i like to make the observation that he is trying to prove that he can still grow hair, just nt in the same place. | | Monday, May 30th, 2005 | | 9:21 am |
@ my sis'
at my sister's place right now, she's paying me to help her clean her house. this was my first time driving all the way to mass by myself. the trip went ok, though i got lost once i got to her town but still managed to find her place, and my car is making a squealing noise whenever i accelerate from rest. it was hard being this close to a computer with world of warcraft and not playing around with it (i can't play it at home). though i'd rather play half life 2 while i'm here, but, you know, wanted to be responsible so i spent all my time cleaning. one of her cats had kittens 4 weeks ago, 4 boys, wash, jane, book, and simon (character names from the crew of Firefly). they're very cute, my hands are covered with tiny scratch marks. | | Thursday, May 26th, 2005 | | 5:44 pm |
my summer plans
for those of you who don't know i plan on going to north carolina this summer around july 10th. why are you going away colin, you ask? because, my aunt asked me to work for her as her stage manager at the shakespeare festival she holds every year (if you are interested in the details look up 'Carolinian Shakespeare Festival' on the interweb). though until july 10th i'm working at thomas college again do maintenance and grounds keeping stuff (currently cleaning dorm rooms), though my boss doesn't know i'm taking off halfway through the summer. i told you that background info so i could tell you this story. i was telling bryan the above and he seemed to think that i should let my boss know right away that i'm taking off in july, though he was basing his argument from the viewpoint that i want to get hired there again next year. what i plan on doing, which my sis told me i should do, is give him 2 weeks notice, maybe one, since he's the kind of guy that likes to torment me on my last day (since i can leave but he's stuck there). speaking of my job, last week while moving furniture with another co-worker we found what looked like a diamond earring. upon closer inspection i determined that it was plastic and told this to my co-worker. he asked 'do you know diamonds?', my answer was 'no, but i know plastic.' saw a news report the other day about why we've had so much rain. it's because the hudson bay in canada is having some irregular temperature variations and that's diverting the jet stream, that normally flows over the midwest, over to us and dumping all this rain on us. it's always canada's fault. | | Saturday, May 21st, 2005 | | 3:24 pm |
colin's random
the other day the phone rang and i answered to a voice that sounded like a tele-marketer. he asked if a mr. colin mcginley was available, and not wanting to talk to him i replied "i'm sorry, he's not here right now, could i take a message". | | 2:43 pm |
Lazy Saturday afternoon
the other day at work i was cleaning a dorm room and discovered that someone had left a hub in their room (swag for colin!). i had a dream about the new star wars movie last night. one scene was vader fighting a bunch of no nome jedi and he kept using his force powers to make the other jedi impale themselves with their own lightsabers. oh, nd there was also a scene where anakin and yoda were spooning for some reason, go figure. the topic of equal rights came up at work yesterday, seeing as this year we actually have a woman on the staff. one of the staff members said something like: 'hey, i'm all for equal rights. as far as i'm concerned, just giving birth is man enough for me.' somehow that conversation then lead to the query of whether one guy i work with had changed his underwear this month yet. to which his answer was 'no, you gotta wait until they stick to the wall when you throw them against it, and after that, you just turn them inside out and wait till that side sticks to the wall. found a funny quote today in people magazine made by eric idle "fast food = slow death", put it in my aol info. one of my mother's japanese pen pals, who is pretty tech savvy, doesn't know what instant messaging is. | | Wednesday, May 18th, 2005 | | 4:03 pm |
@ home
been a while since i've made a post... i blame the dial-up. so, something i've wanted to mention about when i left campus. i had checked out and went back up to brian's room to bid my farewells to him and drew. i'm not one for short goodbyes, meaning, i don't like to just say goodbye from across a room or at he end of a hall. this was my reasoning for giving each of them a hug goodbye, and as strait as they both are, they each hugged back. this didn't really surprise or startle me, but it still made me glad. i started working at thomas college again this week. haven't been sleeping well since i've started. twice i've had to pee in the middle of the night, a sign for me that i'm not really asleep. and one night i even had a dream about trying to get to sleep. started re-reading the Myst book series, found a book in mr. paperback that was all three books combined. | | Friday, May 6th, 2005 | | 10:41 am |
(couldnt figure out how to get this posted, so i copied and pasted) Bourbon Congratulations! You're 109 proof, with specific scores in beer (100) , wine (83), and liquor (60). Screw all that namby-pamby chick stuff, you're going straight for the bottle and a shot glass! It'll take more than a few shots of Wild Turkey or 99 Bananas before you start seeing pink elephants. You know how to handle your alcohol, and yourself at parties. My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: You scored higher than 18% on proof You scored higher than 92% on beer index You scored higher than 90% on wine index You scored higher than 81% on liquor index | | Thursday, May 5th, 2005 | | 11:03 pm |
btw
just wanted to let you know if you ever get the opportunity, watch the movie "Donnie Darko". very much an underground-sleeper hit involving time travel and a guy in a giant creepy bunny costume that only the main character can see that tells him the world is coming to an end. | | 8:04 pm |
last day of college eve
not in such a good mood. granted i never am when i'm depressed enough to listen to the songs on one of my playlists entitled 'sad list'. finals have me stressed out, take my last and hardest tomorrow and i'm not studying as hard as i should cus i'm gonna have to take the class over again next semester anyways. my friends move into their apartment this weekend and while i should be happy for them, i'm not. i feel like all the people i know are moving on with their lives and growing up, but i'm being left behind. that next semester will roll around, and they'll be so busy with their new place the only contact i will have with them will be the sporadic instant messages. it's weird, i feel like these are feelings i should have been having a week before high school graduation. not when my two friends are just moving a mile or so off campus. oh well, back to the one thing that i can focus enough on to get my mind off any depressing topic... tetris. Current Mood: gloomy | | Friday, April 29th, 2005 | | 3:43 pm |
heh, oh well
so, to start off, i'm not in a bad mood anymore. despite all the drama that i went through yesterday, i'm not mad at them anymore. this kinda gets hard to explain, so bear with me. i'll be the first person to admit that they were both assholes for just forgetting about me, but i don't hold it against them. i think something is wrong with me because for some reason, i just can't hold a grudge against someone. as stubborn as i can be (trust me, i am), i just can't stay mad at people. i'm not even mad at the guy that molested me as a child (yes that did happen, though it's a story for another time) and now, as they come and go from this room, looking for an apartment, the only thing that i'm irritated about is how my one friend wears his stupid hat backwards. | | Thursday, April 28th, 2005 | | 12:44 pm |
drama
not the preforming arts kind, the kind that festers like a pile of refuse on this thing that i call my life. the cause of this moodiness? my so-called friends. a while ago one of my friends asked me if i wanted to get an apartment with him, i said no cus i didn't think i could handle living with a hot strait guy. he asked me again a week ago and i said sure, i'd live with him, cus i'm gay and fickle and can change my opinions, mood, or preconceptions at the drop of a hat. besides, he seemed desperate and i have i hard time saying no to cute guys. another one of my friends had been planning off and on to get an apartment with the two of us, depending on if he was fighting with his girlfriend or not, and today told friend #1 that he would look to get a double apt with him (incidentally he did fight with his girlfriend this morning). friend #1 said ok despite the fact that for the past few days the two of us talked about various apartments that we might possibly be able to get. all this transpired while i was in the same room as them. i don't really mind anymore when i'm treated as nonexistent by strangers, in fact i prefer that they do. but when some of the few friends i have treat me that way when i'm sitting right next to them, it makes me wonder why i even bother to keep in touch with these people i call my friends. long story short, looks like i'm rooming in the dorms next semester with someone i dont know, which isn't a bad thing to me. so far, the only thing that cheering me up about this day is the fact that it's raining. Fish of Sweden
haven't had much going on in the past few days, ergo no posts on my blog. drew and i drank all of an 18 pack last friday night, which turned out to be a pretty fun evening. he even played a game of starcraft while drunk and saved the replay to watch it and laugh. when we went to bed, i fell asleep instantly but he stayed awake for 2-3 more hours and ended up vomiting. i got to wondering how we could both have the liquid of 9 beers in us and he vomit and i not, but then i remembered that due to my small bladder, compliments of my mom, i ended up peeing about 10 mins after ever beer i drank. found a kick ass song on the net last night. it used to be the theme for the cartoon block 'adult swim' on cartoon network when it first aired and has been in a few other ads on tv. you can listen to it here http://adultswimhq.com/sounds/03-asintro.mp3 . found out that it's actually a remix of a song called "Mambo Gallego" by a guy named Tito Puente. was watching tv between classes sometime last week and had it on some cooking show on the food network. i noticed that the music playing in the background while the ditzy woman was rambling sounded vaguely familiar to that of 70's porn music. juvenile as it was, i couldn't help but laugh when the woman said "i do love a tasty piece of meat", or some other innuendo along those lines. did you know a serving size of Swedish fish is 19 pieces! shibby. i can almost not fit that much in my mouth at once, actually thats not very accurate, i could probably fit 30-40 in there, but if i did i'd sound like a pig. |
